There are many opportunities to enjoy green open space in the District. Rother District Council manages a variety of open spaces as do the District's Town and Parish Councils.

  • Allotments

    Interested in gardening? Need some good open air exercise? Want to grow your own vegetables or flowers? If you have answered yes to any of these questions then an allotment could be for you. Rother District Council provides and maintains a total of seven sites throughout the district.

  • Egerton Park

    Located behind the Bexhill Museum, just a short walk from the seafront and town centre, Egerton Park offers a range of facilities including a popular children's play-zone, a fitness area and tennis courts . The Park is also home to both an indoor and outdoor bowling club, Bexhill Tennis Club and Egerton Park Family Learning Centre.

  • Grass cutting, grass verges

    Rother District Council is not a Highway Authority and is not responsible for the grass cutting on highway verges.

  • Grazing

    Rother District Council owns a range of sites throughout the district that are available to rent for grazing purposes.

  • Horse rides

    Horse riding is permitted at several sites within the district.

  • Open Spaces, Sport and Recreation Study

    In 2006/07 specialist sport and leisure consultants, PMP Consultancy undertook an audit and assessment of Rother's open spaces, sport and recreation facilities to see whether existing provision meets the needs of local people, and to determine what provision should be made for the future.

  • Parks and Green Spaces in and around Battle

    Rother District Council manages very few sites in the Battle area. Most open spaces in and around Battle are managed by the Town Council.

  • Parks and Green Spaces in Bexhill

    Most of the green spaces managed by Rother District Council are found in Bexhill.

  • Parks and Green Spaces in Rye

    Rother District Council manages three public green spaces in Rye. Other public green spaces in the area around Rye are generally managed by Parish Councils.

  • Combe Valley Countryside Park

    Combe Valley Countryside Park is a joint project between Hastings Borough Council, East Sussex County Council and Rother District Council.

  • Special Events and Fairs

    Several of the district's parks and open spaces are available to rent for special events and fairs and many events already occur on an annual basis.

  • War memorials

    Rother District Council maintains two war memorials in Bexhill-on-Sea.

  • Byelaws for Parks and Open Spaces

    Byelaws are set locally and govern how public open spaces can be used. They relate to a range of subjects from camping and the creation of disturbances to the lighting of fires and vehicular access.

    Use of Devonshire Square for Community Events

    Devonshire square (both the paved area which is restricted to pedestrians and the carriageway running through it) is classified as a public highway and managed by East Sussex County Council.
