Finance Officer/Trainee Accountant

Salary: £23,152 to £25,542 per annum based on qualifications and experience

Contract Type: Full Time - 37 hours per week

Contract Length: Temporary Contract - Fixed term for 3 years

An opportunity has arisen within Financial Services at Rother District Council for a highly motivated individual to work as part of our dedicated accountancy team. We’re seeking someone proactive, enthusiastic, and with excellent communication skills. Attention to detail is essential, and proficiency in Excel is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to learn a variety of financial and administrative tasks quickly and willingness to develop their skills further especially in the area of treasury management. For the right candidate there’s the possibility of studying for a formal accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT) and while gaining valuable experience across a range of accountancy functions.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing the daily Treasury Management function – downloading reports, updating relevant Excel spreadsheets, updating bank records, liaising with banks, brokers and other organisations in relation to financial products for the council; setting up regular and ad hoc online banking payments; submission of government returns relating to the council’s investment activities
  • Maintaining the council’s cashflow spreadsheet, liaising with accountants to obtain information on cashflows; reviewing them to inform decision making on investments and borrowing
  • Assistance with the production of the council’s Financial Statements in relation to Treasury Management
  • Assisting accountants with the preparation of revenue and capital budgets, monitoring spending and income during the year and preparation of final accounts
