Discounts

The full Council Tax bill assumes that there are two or more adults living in a dwelling.

Single Person Discount

If only one adult lives in a dwelling (as their main home), the Council Tax bill will be reduced by a quarter (25%).

To apply for this discount, please follow the link to the right of the page and complete and send back the Council Tax Enquiry Form (please read the guidance notes). Alternatively, please email or confirm in writing the date you became the sole occupant and if applicable, the forwarding address of the person who has vacated.

Second Home Discount

A discount of 10% of the full Council Tax can be claimed on unoccupied but furnished second homes / holiday homes.

To apply for this discount, please follow the link to the right of the page and complete and send back the Council Tax Enquiry Form (please read the guidance notes). Alternatively, please email or confirm in writing the date the property became your furnished second home and your main address.

Employment Contract Discount

A discount of 50% of the full Council Tax can be claimed for a property which is unoccupied and furnished where the owner's main residence is elsewhere as a condition of an employment contract.

To apply for this discount please email or confirm in writing confirming the date this became the case, your main address and a copy of your employment contract detailing the relevant dates.

Disabled Reduction

Where the dwelling is the sole or main residence of a disabled person and certain conditions are satisfied, the liable person will be taxed at the next lowest valuation band. Where the property is band A, a reduction 5/9 will be applied.

If you cannot claim a discount because another adult shares your home, who is not your partner and does not pay you rent, but is on a low income, you may be able to claim a Second Adult Rebate which could effectively replace the lost discount.
