Rother’s rural coastal setting and outstanding scenery masks significant structural weaknesses in the local economy. Low wage levels, poor road and rail infrastructure, a dispersed rural population and an elderly demographic profile all provide significant challenges facing the Council in promoting the economic and social well-being of the district. The Council has a key leadership role in promoting community well-being, and engages with a variety of partners in the sustainable regeneration of communities and its economies.
The Council works closely with other agencies to promote economic growth and combat the effects of low wages, rural isolation and social exclusion. This section sets out further details of the Council’s activities as well as those of its partners in this area.
