The Council helps owners find their lost dogs, will investigate complaints when allegations are received about aggressive dogs attacking other dogs, or when dogs foul public places.

The Council has made a Public Space Protection Order (see below) which details the areas from which dogs are excluded, where dogs must be kept on leads and the offence for dog fouling in a public area.

There are times when other agencies are best placed to help, for example, if a dog attacks a child or person this must be reported to Sussex Police by calling 101. It is an offence to own or possess a banned dog, XL Bully dog, unless you have a certificate of exemption. If you suspect some has an XL Bully dog or is breeding from them, please notify Sussex Police by calling 101.

If you see or suspect someone is treating a dog badly, whether this is physical violence, neglect or any other form of cruelty, please report to the RSPCA at
