RESIDENTS across Rother are being invited to have their say on where dogs are allowed to go in public open spaces.
An eight-week consultation on planned changes to the dog control orders in the council’s Public Space Protection Order opened last week.
Members of the public have until Monday, July 31 to give their views on the proposals.
There are proposals for Bexhill seafront, Camber beach, Pett beach, Rye Cemetery, Rye’s Gun Garden, and Winchelsea beach with options for when and where dogs should be permitted, and whether they should be kept on a short leash, on a lead or allowed off the leash.
In addition, there is a proposal to ban dogs from sport and recreational facilities in public open spaces in all of Rother, such as tennis courts, cricket, football and hockey pitches, gym equipment areas, and BMX and skateboard areas.
Cllr Kathryn Field, cabinet member for Environmental, Licensing, Community Safety and Climate Strategy at Rother District Council, said: “We know that while the majority of dog owners are responsible, keeping their dogs under control and cleaning up after them, unfortunately a small minority do not.
“These proposals will give us the authority to take action against irresponsible dog owners and ensure our public open spaces are safe, enjoyable places for all.
“We are keen to hear from everyone and I encourage both those who own a dog and those who do not to take part in the consultation and let us know their views.”
