RESIDENTS across Rother are being urged to check their electoral registration details or risk missing out on the opportunity to vote in future elections.

With elections due to take place in Rother in May 2027, the annual canvass is an important opportunity for residents to ensure they remain registered and able to have their say on decisions that affect their community.

The annual canvass helps Rother District Council keep the electoral register accurate and up to date, identify residents who may no longer be registered, and encourage anyone who is eligible to register before it is too late.

Lorna Ford, Chief Executive and Electoral Registration Officer at Rother District Council, said: “Keep an eye out for important updates from Rother. The annual canvass is our way of making sure the information on the electoral register for every address is accurate and up to date.

“To make sure you don’t lose your say at upcoming elections, simply follow the instructions we send you.

“If you are not currently registered, your name will not appear in the messages we send. If you need to register, the easiest way is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.”

People who have recently moved home are particularly encouraged to check their registration details. Research by the Electoral Commission shows that recent home movers are significantly less likely to be registered to vote than those who have lived at the same address for a long period.

Across Great Britain, 92% of people who have lived at their address for 16 years are registered to vote, compared with just 36% of those who have lived at their address for less than a year. More information about registering to vote is available at www.electoralcommission.org.uk
