A BEXHILL resident has won an iPad in the first draw of Rother’s new community lottery.
Samantha Small took delivery of her new device recently after winning one of the additional lottery prizes on offer to players.
The Rother Community Lottery held its first draw at the end of April and weekly draws are taking place every Saturday evening to help raise funds for local good causes across the district.
In addition to the weekly cash prizes, the community lottery offers other prizes from time to time for players to win, with a Forest Holiday worth £1,000 the current prize on the website.
Samantha said: “Winning the iPad was a wonderful and unexpected surprise!
“The community lottery is a fantastic way to help support local good causes. By playing, people can make a big difference as the money goes to a local charity of your choice.”
Rother District Council is among a number of local authorities in the country to launch its own online lottery to help raise funds for local groups and organisations.
The launch has been a huge success with 60 not-for-profit organisations already taking part and over 1,200 tickets sold.
Councillor Susan Prochak, Deputy Leader at Rother District Council, said: “Congratulations to Samantha on her recent lottery prize win.
“I am absolutely delighted with success of the new community lottery, and look forward to seeing the initiative grow over the coming weeks and months. We’ve only had the first few draws so it is a fantastic achievement to see over 1,000 tickets sold and so many good causes on board already.
“Don’t forget to sign up for free via the Rother Community Lottery website if you run a local charity or community group so you can receive your share of the funds generated every week.”
It is easy to take part in the Rother Community Lottery. Tickets cost £1 with 60p going towards local good causes, compared to just 28p in the pound for the National Lottery. Players have the chance to win a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers, as well as other cash prizes and free tickets.
