Rother District Council maintains more than 30 public outdoor play facilities in Rother ranging from equipped play areas for toddlers and juniors through to skate-parks and ball-courts for older children and young people.
Our parks and open spaces also provide a pleasant and safe environment for play and informal recreation. Many of the Town and Parish Councils provide play facilities in addition to those that we manage.
We recognise that play is a very important part of a child’s life and that more can be done to increase play opportunities for children and young people in Rother. Last year, a new skatepark and improved BMX facilities were opened at Sidley Recreation Ground providing opportunities for scooter riding and in-line skating as well as skateboarding and BMX-ing.
The play area at Sidley House (Turkey Road, Bexhill) was refurbished last year as part of a government-funded ‘Levelling Up Parks Fund’ initiative. The equipment is primarily targeted at toddlers and young children and includes a multi-play unit incorporating a slide and play panels, a three-seat seesaw, a small fire truck for role play and a carousel alongside the original cradle seat and flat seat swings, which have been retained.
We are in the process of installing some new items of play equipment at Rye Salts play area with the aim of improving access to play opportunities for children with mobility challenges. Please visit the Accessible Play equipment for Rye Salts play area webpage for more information.
