Rother District Council maintains more than 30 public outdoor play facilities in Rother ranging from equipped play areas for toddlers and juniors through to skate-parks and ball-courts for older children and young people.

Our parks and open spaces also provide a pleasant and safe environment for play and informal recreation.  Many of the Town and Parish Councils provide play facilities in addition to those that we manage.

We recognise that play is a very important part of a child’s life and that more can be done to increase play opportunities for children and young people in Rother. Last year, a new skatepark and improved BMX facilities were opened at Sidley Recreation Ground providing opportunities for scooter riding and in-line skating as well as skateboarding and BMX-ing.

Early this summer, the play area at Sidley House (Turkey Road, Bexhill) will be refurbished with equipment primarily targeted at toddlers and young children.  The scheme is being funded through the ‘Levelling Up Parks Fund’ and is part of a package of improvements to the whole site including tree planting and improved access.  Residents voted for the Kompan Play proposal (Option 1) which includes a new multi-play incorporating a slide and play panels, a three-seat seesaw, a small fire truck for role play and a carousel.  The existing swings and benches will be retained.  The play area will be closed for 4-6 weeks whilst work is being carried out, but the adjoining open space will remain open.
