Homelessness and rough sleeping strategy – consultation coming to an end

Time is running out for residents and key stakeholders to take part in a consultation that will help determine future housing and homelessness services in Rother.

The District Council is running the consultation until June 1st, 2025, and wants to hear what people think about a strategy that will shape how services are delivered between 2025 and 2030.

The Council would like to hear from all residents and businesses, but especially from anyone who is at risk of homelessness, and from the building industry and organisations involved in the housing sector.

The strategy has five key themes:

  • Reducing homelessness via early intervention and prevention.
  • Increasing housing accessibility.
  • Improving the supply and quality of temporary accommodation.
  • Reducing homelessness and rough sleeping for people with multiple and complex needs.
  • Improving the quality and suitability of housing.

Cllr Ruairi McCourt, portfolio holder for housing at Rother District Council, said: “District and borough councils up and down the country have seen a major increase in demand for services for housing, homelessness and temporary accommodation, sending costs’ spiralling.

“Given the enormous pressure our housing budgets are under, it’s even more important for us to have robust plans in place on how we manage future service provision. I hope people are able to spend a few minutes to let us know what they think about our strategy in the last few days of the consultation.”
