Vehicle application process

The Council does not operate an age restriction policy, but the vehicle must be inspected by an officer prior to first licensing.

At this time of issue, the vehicle is expected to be in showroom condition.  When you are satisfied your vehicle will meet the Council's requirements, please download and complete a pdf icon Vehicle Licence Application and Renewal Form [227kb].

This will need to be supported by a copy of the vehicle logbook confirming you are the rightful owner, current insurance confirming the vehicle is insured for hire and reward, and a Vehicle Compliance Test certificate which is no more than 4 weeks old.

You will also need to pay the appropriate Application Fee. You can pay online by visiting our Payments page. If you pay online you will be emailed your receipt, please show this email to the Licensing Officer during your appointment.

Once the documentation has been checked, payment received and the vehicle inspected, the vehicle licence plates will be prepared.  The internal (small) plate must be displayed inside the vehicle in a position where it can be seen from inside and outside the vehicle. The external (large) plate must be affixed to the outside rear of the vehicle.  The two door badges must be affixed to the top half of the rear doors.

Once licensed, we will send you the appropriate renewal documentation approximately 8 weeks before the expiry of your Vehicle. You are reminded that it is your responsibility, not the Council's, to renew your Licence and, if you fail to do so before the expiry date, then the vehicle will be unlicensed and you will not be permitted to work with that vehicle until its licence has been renewed.
