Our Climate Emergency Plan has been established to ensure we are carbon neutral by 2030.
Our list of achievements so far, include:
- Produced and adopted a Rother Environment Strategy in Sept 2020
- Our annual emissions of CO2 from direct operations were 18% lower than our baseline year of 2019/20
- Introduced numerous staff and office management procedures to make the council more sustainable
- Encouraged community grant applications with sustainability in mind and used Community Infrastructure Levy funding on green schemes
- Delivered carbon literacy training for our councillors
- Delivering low carbon housing at a housing development at Blackfriars in Battle
- Support for Superfast Broadband and digital solutions to replace paper processes

In progress:
- A major and first ever Pan-Rother project fitting solar panels and other energy saving infrastructure to all Village Halls funded through the Community Infrastructure Levy
- Installation of Electric Vehicle charging points in appropriate RDC car parks
- Increase the proportion of waste that is recycled by Rother residents to 53%
- Develop a plan to ensure Council assets are carbon neutral
- Incentivise Parish and Town Councils to adopt Climate Emergency Policies
