Currently, if a resident’s circumstances change the resident has to tell us because it can affect the amount of their Council Tax reduction.

We usually calculate the reduction on a weekly basis.   The reason we do this is because, historically, previous schemes for reducing Council Tax were worked out weekly.

We propose to calculate the reduction from the date the change happened.  This is because Council Tax is charged on each day you live in the property.

The advantages are:

• This change makes the reduction scheme match how Council Tax is charged.  It makes sense to us to operate the same way.
• It is simpler for us to work out and that saves time and money.

We have not identified any drawbacks to this proposal.
