Bexhill’s new council becomes official

THE FINAL step in the creation of a new council for Bexhill has been completed with the signing of legal papers.

Bexhill-on-Sea Council will become a reality following the signing of the Community Governance Order by Rother District Council’s Chairman Cllr Brian Drayson, and Chief Executive Malcolm Johnston.

Elections for 18 seats on the nine-ward council will take place in May, with new councillors set to work with the district council to agree what responsibilities and services should be transferred to the new authority.

Cllr Brian Drayson, Rother District Council’s Chairman, said: “The signing of this order marks the final step in the process which has been made possible with the support of local district councillors and the community.

“We now look forward to welcoming the new councillors and working with them on what the future holds for the new authority.”

Members of the public interested in standing as local councillors for Bexhill-on-Sea Council can find out what the role entails at an online event on Wednesday, February 24.

Councillors and officers from Rother District Council will be available at the event, together with representatives from the parish and town council sector, to explain what standing for election involves and to answer any questions members of the public may have about becoming a councillor.

Interested residents who would like to participate in the information event should contact the Democratic Services team at democraticservices@rother.gov.uk; alternatively the event can be viewed live from 6pm on Wednesday, February 24, via our YouTube live stream

More information about the new Bexhill-on-Sea council and becoming a councillor is available on the councillors, democracy and meetings section of the website.
