£150 Council Tax Energy Rebate update

Rother District Council is apologising to residents after a delay in paying energy rebates caused by an error in a third-party financial payment system.

Just over 19,000 eligible households across the district who pay their council tax by direct debit, were due to receive their rebate of £150 on the 18th May. Unfortunately, an error occurred with the payment system meaning that no payments have been made. The council is working urgently with the system supplier to fix the problem and hope to have the situation resolved as soon as possible.

Councillor Ashan Jeeawon, the Council’s portfolio holder for finance and performance management, said: “We are extremely sorry for this delay as we know many people across Rother have been waiting patiently for their rebates. We’re working hard to resolve this issue and will make the payments as soon as we can.”

Some eligible households who do not pay by direct debit, have already been sent a letter from the council asking them to confirm their eligibility online and provide their bank details so that payments can be made. Those residents who have not yet received a letter, and do not pay by direct debit, will be sent a letter next week.
