Trainee Accountant

Salary: £24,847 to £33,245 per annum. Starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience.

Contract Type: Full Time - 37 hours per week

Contract Length: Permanent Contract

An opportunity has arisen within Financial Services at Rother District Council for a highly motivated individual to work as part of our dedicated accountancy team. We’re seeking someone proactive, enthusiastic, and with excellent communication skills. Attention to detail is essential, and proficiency in Excel is highly desirable.

This is a career graded role so we are open to candidates at different stages in their career and training journey.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to learn a variety of financial and administrative tasks quickly and willingness to develop their accountancy skills. For the right candidate there’s the possibility of studying for a formal accountancy qualification (e.g. AAT, CiPFA or ACCA) and while gaining valuable experience across a range of accountancy functions.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing the daily Treasury Management function including maintaining the council’s cashflow spreadsheet and reviewing the available information to inform decision making on investments and borrowing
  • Assistance with the production of the council’s Financial Statements
  • Assisting the Senior Accountants with the preparation of revenue and capital budgets, monitoring spending and income during the year and preparation of final accounts
  • Reconciliations on various records and systems
  • And working alongside the Finance Systems team to gain an understanding of their key processes, providing cover for accounts payable, accounts receivable and systems administration functions
