Senior Environmental Health Officer – Community Protection (Graduates welcome to apply and part-time hours available)

Salary: £40,302.00 to £44,936.00 per annum, plus £2,907 car allowance per annum. Starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience.

Contract Type: Full Time - 37 hours per week

Contract Length: Permanent Contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Community Protection team within the shared Environmental Health Service of Rother and Wealden District Councils. Covering much of the rural area of outstanding natural beauty in East Sussex, the service area borders and surrounds Eastbourne and Hastings, and includes the towns of Bexhill, Crowborough, Uckfield, Battle, Hailsham, and Rye.

The Community Protection team is responsible for investigating a wide range of complex nuisance complaints and related issues. This includes responding to planning and licensing consultations, Pollution Prevention Control matters, assessing and considering air quality, and complaints related to conditions in the private rented sector. As a Senior Environmental Health Officer, you would be dealing with a range of issues, and we will consider your interests and preferences around specialist areas of work if you apply to us. The Community Protection team sits within a traditional Environmental Health Service, working alongside the Food, Health and Safety, and Licensing Teams. There are offices based in both Hailsham and Bexhill. Members of the team work flexibly, combining work from home with site visits and working from the office at least 2 days a week.

We will consider applications from officers who may be interested in a part time role and from Environmental Health graduates who are yet to complete their professional registration (please note that salary will be adjusted accordingly in such cases).

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Environmental Health and registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board or CIEH as an environmental health practitioner or Chartered Member of the CIEH on appointment.
  • Ability to plan effectively across a wide range of service activities
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal & written)
  • Strongly motivated with ability to work well under pressure and balance priorities
