County Council Elections and District/Parish By-Elections – Thursday 7th May

From 7am to 10pm on Thursday, 7th May 2026, polling stations across the District will be open for the East Sussex County Council Elections. There will also be a Rye & Winchelsea District By-Election and Northiam Parish By-Election taking place.

Please Note: Due to gas repair works taking place tomorrow, Thursday 7th May 2026, electors voting at Westfield Community Hall are advised that vehicular access to the polling station via Workhouse Lane may be unavailable. The polling station will remain open from 7am to 10pm, but access may be on foot only.

Locating your Polling Station

Each voter will be assigned to a specific polling station throughout the District, which is indicated on your Poll Card. This can also be checked on our Find My Nearest webpage by clicking the button below.

Photo ID Requirement

Please be aware that voters in England need to show photo ID to vote at polling stations in all elections.

This includes:

  • UK parliamentary elections, including general elections, by-elections and recall petitions
  • Local elections and by-elections
  • Police and Crime Commissioner elections

Postal Votes

Your postal vote needs to be with the elections team at your local council by 10pm on polling day to be counted. If you can’t send your postal vote in time, you can take it to a polling station in the same county division.

If you have lost, not received, or spoilt your postal vote, you can apply for a replacement from the Town Hall, Bexhill, TN39 3JX until 5pm on Thursday, 7th May.

Emergency Proxy

In certain circumstances, where you have an emergency that means you can’t vote in person, you can apply for an emergency proxy.

This must be something that you weren’t aware of before the normal proxy vote deadline, usually 5pm, 6 working days before the election. Emergency proxy applications can be made up to 5pm on polling day.

By law, there are certain circumstances where you may be able to apply for an emergency proxy. They include: 

  • You have a medical emergency
  • You are away for work
  • Your photo ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged
