Call for more landlords to join successful Tenant Finder Scheme

A call is going out for more landlords to join Rother’s successful Tenant Finder Scheme.

The District Council is encouraging landlords to join the scheme, which helps provide safe, stable homes for residents while offering generous incentives and dedicated support for property owners.

The scheme introduces landlords to prospective tenants and offers a range of benefits—including a generous one-off incentive payment, free advertising, safety checks, inventories, regular tenancy visits, and ongoing support throughout the tenancy.

Created to give landlords confidence in letting to households who may otherwise struggle to access the private rented sector, the Tenant Finder Service offers practical assistance before, during, and after the letting process.

Landlords praise the scheme’s supportive approach

Local landlords who have partnered with the Council report overwhelmingly positive experiences.

One landlord, who has been involved for two years, said the service has become even more effective thanks to the approachability and support provided by Council officers:

“RDC placed the family, provided support, and helped them integrate and settle into the community. We have recommended other landlords to work with RDC, as this scheme works well for us and has helped a vulnerable family with a stable home.”

Another landlord, who has leased a property through the scheme for three years, praised both the ethics and efficiency of the service:

“We wanted to support a family in need, and the incentives offered were a pleasant surprise. Working with the Housing Team saved us time, and we were able to meet the prospective tenant before agreeing the let. Thanks to the excellent help we received, the house is now occupied at a fair rent.”

A third landlord highlighted the reliability of tenants and the responsive support from officers:

“Janete and her colleagues are always available at the end of the phone. Rother pays the first month’s rent and deposit directly to the landlord, as well as a landlord incentive, which is a bonus. It’s fulfilling to know that less mainstream tenants can find a home, and many have become long term tenants.”

Why landlords choose the Tenant Finder Scheme

Landlords joining the scheme can expect:

  • Receive a one-off payment*
  • Free inventory, safety checks, and tenant check-in/checkout services‑in/check‑out services
  • Tenancy sustainment visits to support both tenant and landlord
  • Direct contact with dedicated Council officers for ongoing advice
  • Reduced advertising costs, as the Council matches properties to suitable tenants
  • Rent and Legal Policy purchased on the landlord’s behalf

* Incentives are based on the client’s individual needs and circumstances and can be negotiated to provide the most suitable support and value to landlords.

These benefits are designed to reduce risk, save time, and provide reassurance—particularly for landlords who may be open to supporting tenants who face barriers in the private rented sector.
