An estimated 880,000 households across the UK may be missing out on support worth on average over £3,900 per year.
That’s why Rother District Council is joining with other local authorities in East Sussex to urge residents to check if they – or someone they know – are eligible for Pension Credit.
Pension Credit is a payment to top up people’s income. Residents can apply for it when they reach state pension age. How much they get depends on the value of their current state pension, other income and any savings they may have.
Claiming Pension Credit is important because it means people could automatically be able to:
- Apply for a free TV licence if they’re 75 or over
- Get cold weather payments
- Get help with NHS costs. This can include things like prescriptions, dental treatment, glasses and transport costs for hospital appointments
To make a claim people can call the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234. Residents calling will have to have their national insurance number, information about income, savings and investments, and their bank account details.
Attendance Allowance
As well as claiming Pension Credit, if anyone is sick, disabled or has caring needs they could also apply for Attendance Allowance. This is extra help for people 66 and over who need help with personal care or supervision because of illness or disability. Attendance Allowance can be worth up to £101.75 per week. Call the Attendance Allowance helpline on 0800 731 0122.
If residents in Rother want to talk to someone about claiming Pension Credit or Attendance Allowance, they can contact Citizens Advice 1066 (Hastings and Rother) on 01424 869 352.
Citizens Advice offices are local charities which offer free, confidential, independent and impartial advice to everyone.
