A new Sussex Winelands initiative that aims to put Rother’s vineyards firmly on the map is being supported by Rother District Council.
The Rother Wine Triangle is being launched this week to coincide with English Wine Week (21-29th June).
The project is designed to boost wine tourism in the area, and includes new wayfinding signage, orientation points and an interactive wine trail showcasing seven award-winning wineries in the Rother Valley.
Participating vineyards in the pilot scheme include Carr Taylor Vineyard, Charles Palmer Vineyard, Mountfield Winery, Oastbrook, Oxney Organic Estate, Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard and Tillingham.
The initiative is being backed by the District Council. Cllr Hazel Timpe, lead member for Tourism, said: “I’m delighted that the Rother Wine Triangle is being launched. The wine industry in Sussex is absolutely booming and Sussex wine tourism is growing year on year – helping to pour millions of pounds into the local economy.
“Rother is proud to have some of the best vineyards in the county, and I believe this initiative will provide another boost for Sussex Winelands as the UK’s premier wine tourism destination.”
The Rother Wine Triangle allows visitors to explore the vineyards on foot (or wheels) and enjoy experiences including cellar-door tastings, wine tours and dining, whilst soaking in the stunning local landscape. Several of the vineyards also offer accommodation on site, so people can extend their stay and explore the area in the heart of 1066 Country.
The project has been supported by the UK Government, and with the first signage installations planned for the summer, the Triangle promises to lift Sussex as a must-visit destination for wine lovers.
The Sussex Winelands region now has over 140 vineyards and an estimated 30 wineries all within easy reach of both London and Gatwick Airport. It’s an area that has become synonymous with English winemaking excellence. For more information, please visit: www.sussexwinelands.com
