- Do you charge VAT for your services?
No, we do not charge VAT for any Street Naming and Numbering Services. - Can I get an Invoice?
The email you receive from our payment provider confirms that payment has been received by us and is your receipt for the Street Naming and Numbering service provided. - Why is my Postal Address different from my Official Address?
Royal Mail allocates postal addresses specifically for the purpose of delivering their mail. They also own and allocate postcodes for the same purpose. This may not always match your official address. - Why is my Council Tax Address different from my Official Address?
If you apply for a Council Tax account the address is taken from your application. If the address on your council tax bill address does not match your official address, please contact us at rothersnn@rother.gov.uk and we will ask the Council Tax Department to correct their records. - Why doesn’t my address show in address drop downs on some shopping websites?
If your official address has only recently been allocated by us, it may take some additional time for the address to propagate out to third parties. If your address is not new and does not show up in address drop down on third party websites then, in the first instance, please confirm that the address you are entering is correct by searching for the address on Find My Address. You can also confirm your postcode using the Royal Mail Postcode Finder. If your address is either incorrect or missing from Find My Address or Royal Mail, then it may not have been officially registered with us. Please contact us at rothersnn@rother.gov.uk. - Who can make an application to number or name/re-name a property?
Only the property owner or appointed representative can make the application. - Why do I need to supply an email address?
The Street Naming and Numbering Team are paperless and all correspondence is electronic to speed up the process and reduce cost to the public. - Can I add a property name to my house without contacting the council?
All property names must be approved by Rother District Council and processed by application to ensure that the proposed name meets our property naming criteria and so that the updated property address information can be passed on to the emergency services as well as Royal Mail and other interested parties. - How can I check a postcode?
Postcodes can be checked by using the Postcode Finder service on the Royal Mail website. New property addresses held on their Not Yet Built (NYB) file will not be displayed on the postcode finder service until they are complete and can receive mail. - I have a property name and number, can I use the name instead of the number?
The number is the primary address for your property, so you can’t use the name instead of it, however the name can be used alongside it. - I have a property number, can I remove this and use a name instead?
No, a name can be added as an alias but the property number will remain as the primary address. - Can I change my address and tell Royal Mail myself?
Royal Mail will not accept new or amended property details from any organisation other than the Local Authority. It is also important that your address is correctly registered with us so the information can be passed on to the emergency services as well as Royal Mail and other interested parties. - Why can’t I find my address on the Royal Mail website?
Royal Mail does not put addresses of properties that are still under construction on their website. This means addresses that have been agreed with us may not immediately be visible to anyone using their website for address confirmation purposes, such as utility and other service providers. Please do not assume a development will have the same postcode as the surrounding or existing properties. Please also note that we discourage the informal adoption of marketing names by developers as these names may not be approved. This practice can cause confusion and inconvenience for all parties. - What are the LLPG and NLPG?
We maintain and update the local address database for Rother District, known as the Local Land & Property Gazetteer (LLPG), which contains all the official addresses within the District. All changes made through the SNN process are included in the LLPG. The LLPG feeds into the national address database known as the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG). The address data in the NLPG conforms to British Standard BS7666:2006 and is continually updated by all local authorities. It provides one definitive source of national address data. It covers the whole of England, Scotland and Wales and contains more than 30 million residential, business, and non-mailing addresses.
