Sustainability survey launched for food-related organisations in Rother

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), charities, and community groups involved in food and drink across Rother are being encouraged to take part in a new sustainability survey.

Rother District Council and the Rother Food Partnership are inviting organisations involved in growing, distributing, preparing, or selling food and drink to share their views on environmental sustainability.

The survey aims to build a clearer picture of current knowledge, attitudes, and practices across the local food sector.

The findings will help shape recommendations for a future environmental training programme designed to support food-related organisations in becoming more sustainable. The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and is open until 20 November 2026.

Organisations interested in learning more about the Rother Food Partnership can contact Partnership Coordinator Iona Smith at iona.smith@rva.uk.com. Those who are not currently members are urged to get in touch to find out about joining the partnership.

The survey forms part of the council’s wider work to reduce Rother’s carbon footprint and achieve Gold Carbon Literate Organisation status. Last year, the authority was awarded Silver Carbon Literacy status after delivering climate change training to staff and supporting community environmental projects.

Rother has also received national recognition for its climate action work. Following an assessment by Climate Emergency UK in 2025, the council was named the most improved district council in the country and ranked ninth out of 51 district councils in the organisation’s Climate Action Scorecard.

The council continues to promote sustainable travel through its membership of Easit East Sussex, helping staff make greener commuting choices.
