Council to discuss supporting Sussex tourism drive

A campaign to boost tourism and business by promoting Sussex as a place to visit and do business could get a funding boost from Rother District Council.

The council’s Cabinet is to discuss joining other local councils and private companies by contributing £15,000 to support Sussex Modern – a consortium of 22 cultural and wine businesses across East and West Sussex leading a new marketing push to redefine the image of Sussex, improve perceptions of the county, and increase tourism.

A report to the council’s Cabinet highlights previous successes achieved by Sussex Modern in promoting the landscape and culture of the county to new audiences which saw an increase in visitors to various sites and locations around the county.

As well as promoting places to visit and highlighting the county’s natural beauty, Sussex Modern has also been celebrating the growth of the county’s growing viticulture industry to target and attract new wine tourists. And its most recent project was aimed at businesses and consumers with two films promoting Sussex as a place to start or do business.

The report to Rother District Council’s Cabinet proposes the council contributes £15,000 towards the overall funding of Sussex Modern. If it agrees to do so it will join other local councils, Arts Council England, The South Downs National Park and private companies.
