Council leaders welcome boost for poorest communities

ROTHER District Council has welcomed news that it has been chosen to be one of 20 new Levelling Up Partnership areas.

The news, announced in this week’s Government Budget, will see the authority sharing a £400 million fund allowing it to address the significant economic and social challenges the district faces.

The money will enable the district council to build on work already taking place with the help of £19 million secured as part of the Levelling Up Fund and through the UK Shared prosperity Fund.

Cllr Doug Oliver, leader of Rother District Council, said: “This is fantastic news for the future of our district and will support our continuing efforts to boost prosperity across Rother.

“We await further details from Government about how this funding can be used, but look forward to working with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on levelling up our poorest communities and giving them the opportunities they deserve.”
