Community Lottery lifeline for good causes

A new online community lottery to be launched in Rother this spring will ensure vital support for local causes.

The Rother Community Lottery, being launched by Rother District Council, will offer players the chance to win a £25,000 jackpot while supporting a range of community projects across the district.

Tickets will go on sale in late March for the first draw to be held at the end of April. Ahead of this, local organisations are being invited to sign up for free and become lottery beneficiaries.

A virtual event will take place on Thursday, February 17, giving representatives from local groups a chance to find out more.

Cllr Susan Prochak, Deputy Leader at Rother District Council, said: “I am delighted that the Rother Community Lottery is being launched this spring. Many local good causes are finding it increasingly difficult to raise funds for the valuable community work they provide.

“The Lottery will help to support charities, not-for-profit community and voluntary groups that work right across Rother District.”

Tickets will cost £1 and good causes in Rother will be able to set up their own lottery page and will receive 50p in every pound spent by players accessing their page.  A further 10p from the ticket price will go into a general good causes fund, with the remainder put towards prizes, operating costs and VAT.

Players who do not wish to support a specific cause can still take part in the lottery, with 60p of their ticket price going into the general good causes fund, which will be distributed by the council.

Matching six numbers will win players the £25,000 jackpot, but other prizes are up for grabs including £2,000, £250, £25 and free tickets.
