Colonnade work on track – council seeking bids

Major repair work that is bringing the Colonnade in Bexhill back to its best condition is progressing well and the iconic listed building is on track for a partial re-opening at Easter.

Rother District Council is now marketing the entire building which is currently completely vacant.

The Council is seeking bids from all interested parties. This could be small local vendors or larger operators who might look to take on all or part of the building.

The Colonnade presents a unique opportunity to secure a prime beachfront location within one of Bexhill‑on‑Sea’s most distinctive Grade II Listed buildings. The newly renovated property offers uninterrupted sea views through its striking curved frontage and benefits from high footfall along the town’s vibrant promenade.

Positioned directly in front of the iconic De La Warr Pavilion, a Grade I Listed cultural landmark and international centre for contemporary arts, the site draws year‑round visitors.

The Colonnade comprises a furnished restaurant space and a series of smaller kiosk units, offering flexible opportunities for independent operators, boutique traders, or complementary uses.

Cllr Christine Bayliss, portfolio holder for economic development and regeneration, said: “We are welcoming proposals for the entire building, multiple parts or for individual units, whether on a licence basis or, where appropriate, as part of a longer‑term lease arrangement.”
