Benefits for Staff
We believe the Council is a great place to work, with colleagues regularly commenting on our friendly and supportive culture. One of the most important things about working here is that you will be part of a team that supports residents and businesses every single day, making Rother a better place to live, work and visit. We are inclusive and support diversity in our workforce and in our role in helping to bring communities together.
Whilst our many roles are different, we all work to the same core values, they form the ROOT from which we grow:
- Respect – Being professional public servants, empowering and valuing others

- Inclusive and connected ‘I feel I belong here’
- Innovative and skilled ‘I have the skills and knowledge to work and grow’

Proud to be a Disability Confident Employer
The Disability Confident symbol represents the policy set up by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It is an identity accredited to employers by the DWP. It shows that Rother has a positive approach to employing disabled people. In order to display this symbol, Rother District Council had to assess the work the Council does for current staff and when recruiting new staff to ensure it meets the core themes of the policy. The Council also had to demonstrate how it participates in activities recommended by the Government to recruit fairly; give opportunities for everyone to experience work; work with other organisations who support disabled people looking for work as well as train and support existing staff.
You will see the symbol displayed on Rother District Council’s job adverts and application form.
Rother District Council is positive about employing disabled people and we are keen to know about your abilities. We are committed to the disability confident scheme, we guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the vacancy; we will ensure their individual needs are factored into the interview environment, making adjustments to ensure the interview experience is as accommodating as possible for every candidate.
