Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP)

Whenever there are forecasts that ‘feel like’ temperatures of 0 degrees or below or other types of extreme weather the council will initiate it’s Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP). When SWEP is initiated the council informs services, including the rough sleepers outreach service so that anyone thought to be rough sleeping in the Rother area can be accommodated in temporary accommodation until temperatures or any severe weather improves.

To access SWEP during normal office hours you can pop in to see us at the Town Hall in Bexhill, or call 01424 787000 or outside of office hours call 0330 123 3517

What to do if you are concerned about someone rough sleeping

Report concerns about rough sleepers at any time through the national Streetlink Service. Streetlink exists to help end rough sleeping by connecting people sleeping rough with the local services that can support them. To report your concerns visit the Streetlink website or download the app on your smartphone.

Once you have submitted a report it will automatically trigger an alert to outreach services to check on the welfare of the person rough sleeping and offer them support and advice.
