Properties that are left long term empty can fall into disrepair, becoming a potential eyesore and focus for anti-social behaviour such as vandalism and fly-tipping. We want to see empty properties in our district brought back into use, or kept in a good state of repair until they are.

Where properties are causing harm to a neighbourhood we have enforcement powers available to require works, force a sale, take over the management or compulsory purchase.

We prefer to work with owners, so if you have an empty property you wish to sell or let out, email us at tenantfinder@rother.gov.uk. In some circumstances the council may be able to assist with the costs of getting your property ready to let.

If you are part of a community group wanting to bring a property in your area back into use then the Action on Empty Homes website has useful resources to help you. You can also find more information on community led housing on the Community Led Homes website

If you want to report a problem property or enquire about buying an empty property please use our reporting form below.

Due to staff vacancies we are unable to investigate reports of empty homes until this is resolved
