The Government announced on 7 September 2026 that the Local Government Reorganisation within East Sussex had been paused and was under review.  The Government also confirmed that the local elections scheduled for May 2027 would proceed, using the current district and borough council boundaries.  As a result of this announcement, all 38 seats on Rother District Council are up for election on 6 May 2027.

Rother District Council will therefore be holding a pre-election event on Tuesday 24 November 2026, at 6:00pm on MS Teams (only) for anyone who is thinking about standing for election to Rother District Council in May 2027.  The event will be recorded and made available on the Council’s website for those interested parties who are unable to attend.

“One of the best ways of influencing decisions about your community and our district is to become a District Councillor”, said Cllr Gareth Delany, Chair of the Member Development Task Group.

Learn about the support and development opportunities that Councillors elected to Rother District Council will receive to help them in their daily role as community leaders, as well as an outline of the varied services that Rother District Council provides and the challenges that will be facing the Council during the next few years.

There will be an opportunity to hear from current serving Councillors and Senior Officers.

If you are interested in attending this event, please book your place by emailing democraticservices@rother.gov.uk by Friday 20 November 2026.
