Councillors and officers from Rother District Council gathered at the Town Hall this week to show their support for Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs from 21 September to 4 October.
The national campaign encourages people, schools, businesses and communities to choose Fairtrade products and support fairer trade around the world. This year’s theme is “Do it Fair”, with events and activities taking place across the UK.
Councillor Doug Oliver, Leader of Rother District Council, said: “Choosing Fairtrade means your everyday purchases can help farmers and workers around the world receive a fairer deal while supporting more sustainable supply chains.
“It helps ensure that the people who grow and produce products such as coffee, tea, cocoa, bananas and cotton receive fairer prices and better working conditions. Fairtrade supports better livelihoods for farmers and workers and helps communities thrive.”
Fairtrade products are widely available in supermarkets, shops and cafés. By choosing them, consumers can help support producers in developing countries while promoting ethical and sustainable trade.
