This summer, the streets of Bexhill Town Centre will be transformed into an open-air gallery from the colourful land of Summertopia, as families are invited to take part in a free augmented reality (AR) story-trail.

From 14 August to 25 September 2026, Bexhill Neighbourhood Board is teaming up with High Street Safari to bring an interactive digital adventure to the community.

The trail invites families to track down nine colourful pictures hidden in shop windows, each created by a different competitive animal artist from the world of Summertopia.

The Summertopia trail is more than just a summer hunt; it’s an interactive art competition. Using a smartphone, explorers can find each picture, work out which animal artist created it, and scan the QR codes to see the characters appear in the real world in 3D AR.

Along the way, families will tackle fun riddles and mini challenges to help decide the winner of the Summertopia art prize.

Stephen Blackwell, Project Director at High Street Safari, said: “Our goal is to create magic without the friction. Summertopia gives children a chance to enjoy technology in a healthy, active way — getting them outdoors, walking and exploring while they interact with a fun digital story. There are no apps to download and no complicated sign-ups; families can simply use a smartphone and start playing.”

The trail takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and is completely free for all families and groups. Once all nine characters have been found and the challenges completed, players will be rewarded with a free, beautifully illustrated e-book to download and enjoy at home. Sticker prizes will be available for collection at the De La Warr Pavilion once players have completed the trail.

To start the adventure, families should head to Bexhill Train Station and look for the first vinyl marker inside the station.
