Building contractor announced for leisure centre projects

Updating of two leisure facilities in Bexhill is a step closer to reality following the appointment of the main building contractor to take on the work.

BMR Construction has been confirmed by Rother District Council as the main contractor for the Landlord Improvement and refurbishment work at Bexhill Leisure Centre and the town’s Ravenside Leisure Pool.

Councillor Hazel Timpe, portfolio holder for neighbourhood services and tourism at Rother District Council said: “Following a comprehensive procurement and value engineering process, BMR Construction has been appointed to deliver a programme of improvement works designed to enhance both facilities and support their continued operation for years to come.”

The work includes significant mechanical and electrical upgrades, refurbishment works to key internal areas, a full roof replacement at Bexhill Leisure Centre, installation of solar PV systems at both sites and replacement of the swimming pool lining at Ravenside Leisure Pool.

Cllr Timpe added: “We are extremely excited about reaching this next step in readiness to upgrade two of our popular and well-used local leisure facilities. We are committed to maintaining these important health and well-being spaces to a high standard as we recognise how vital they are for supporting the mental and physical health of residents and visitors.

“The improvements are a vital part of the work we do to ensure those who live and work in Rother have access to quality, healthy lifestyles and we cannot wait to see those using the facilities in the future reaping the benefits of the upgrades and look forward to the work beginning this autumn.”

Construction is scheduled to begin at Bexhill Leisure Centre in early August and work at Ravenside Leisure Pool is due to start in September.

Cllr Timpe said: “Every effort will be made to minimise disruption during the construction period with further updates on the programme and service changes communicated in advance where possible.

“We look forward to working with BMR Construction to deliver these important improvements for residents and visitors across the district.” Both leisure facilities are operated by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Rother District Council. Ravenside Leisure Pool will be closed throughout the refurbishment works, while Bexhill Leisure Centre is expected to remain open for the majority of the construction programme.

Ends.
