Go online – residents and funding would benefit says Council

A more convenient service for residents and better use of council funds would be the result if more people signed up for a revenues and benefits online account.

That’s the view of Rother District Council bosses who say this year they will spend over £45,000 sending out over 47,000 letters to residents notifying them of their council tax charges.

The authority says people choosing an online account would not only help public funds but would also make life easier for themselves.

Cllr Doug Oliver, Leader of the Council, said: “Every March, we spend thousands of pounds on printing and postage in order to send out thousands of council tax letters to residents.

“If more people chose the online option, we wouldn’t have to send out as many council tax letters. The money saved could then be directed to other vital council services. And of course, another bonus of going online and ‘paperless’ is that it helps to protect the environment by reducing paperwork.

“By registering online, residents can gain secure access to their information including council tax balance, council tax reduction awards, instalments, payments, and housing benefits – all at the touch of a button. And they can do this at any time of day, seven days a week from the comfort of their own homes.”
