Rother District Council is encouraging residents to back local businesses this Christmas and New Year through its ongoing Shop Local/Love Local campaign, celebrating the independent traders that help town and village centres to thrive.
As part of the campaign, the council is highlighting some of the stand‑out businesses that operate across the district – including two much‑loved Ticehurst favourites: Ticehurst Village Store in Church Street and The Old Haberdashery on the High Street.
Ticehurst Village Store has long been a cornerstone of the community, offering essential groceries, fresh produce, local goods, and friendly service at the heart of the village. Its commitment to supporting local suppliers and providing a welcoming environment makes it a vital part of everyday life for residents.
Just a short walk away, The Old Haberdashery helps to bring creativity and character to Ticehurst’s High Street. Known for its beautifully curated selection of vintage haberdashery, textiles, craft materials, and unique decorative pieces, the shop attracts customers from across the district looking for something special, handcrafted, or sustainably sourced.
Both businesses highlight the diversity, creativity, and resilience of Rother’s independent retail scene.
Cllr Christine Bayliss, portfolio holder for economic development and regeneration, said: “Our Shop Local/Love Local campaign aims to strengthen our economy by encouraging residents to choose local shops wherever possible—helping small businesses thrive, protecting jobs, and keeping money circulating within the community.”
Praising the dedication of local traders, Cllr Bayliss, added: “Our independent shops are the beating heart of our communities. I was delighted to recently visit Ticehurst Village Store and The Old Haberdashery and meet the people making them such a success. These businesses, and many like them across the district represent the absolute best of Rother’s entrepreneurial spirit.”
