The Colonnade is a Grade II listed building on Bexhill’s sea front, erected to commemorate the coronation of King George V. Rother District Council (RDC) will be undertaking a series of repairs and refurbishment works to the building due to issues with water ingress. This project is due to commence in October 2025 and be completed by Spring 2026.

The Colonnade is an incredibly important building to the town of Bexhill and sits in the heart of the seafront creating an Edwardian setting to the modernist De La Warr Pavilion expressing the stages of development of Bexhill by the successful Earl De La Warr. Avison Young have been appointed following a procurement exercise by Rother District Council. Avison Young are building and construction professionals and technical advisors, who provide advice to clients and deliver projects throughout the full lifecycle of a real estate asset, from the smallest to the most complex. A multi-disciplinary practice Avison Youngs team consist of Building Surveyors, Project Managers and Heritage consultants amongst others. The lead consultant Daniell Lovell has previously worked on the colonnade completing building surveyors in both 2019 and 2024 and has a lot of knowledge about the building and the town of Bexhill.

Avison Young have completed a series of visits to the Colonnade during March and April in preparation for the Listed Building Consent Application. This has included visits from a dedicated drainage contractor.

The project was taken to Cabinet as part of Rother District Councils Budget and Medium Long Term Financial Plan 2025/26-2028/29 on the 3rd of February 2025. To see the Cabinet decision and view the webcast please click (Item CB24/70).

The budget approved for the project is £650,000 with initial approval to appoint consultants to commence the project.
