Residents in Battle are invited to join a community tree care day at Coronation Gardens Rec, Battle, TN33 0GD on Tuesday 6th May 2025 between 11am and 4pm. Volunteers can attend for the whole session, or just drop in.

This community tree care day, hosted jointly by Rother District Council and Battle Town Council, will involve spreading woodchips around the recently planted micro wood and community orchard trees, and placing tree stakes and guards around the saplings.

Volunteers are asked to:

  • Wear suitable clothing for the weather on the day
  • Wear suitable footwear (wellies or sturdy boots) and gloves (preferably gardening gloves)
  • Always follow the directions of event staff whilst on site and act in a safe and considerate manner
  • Bring a gardening fork or shovel if you can (some will be provided)

Please note there are no toilets on the rec. The closest public toilets are at Battle Train Station (around a 13-minute walk).

Please walk, use public transport or car share where possible to reduce traffic. Nearby on-street parking is free but limited. If you do drive, please park sensibly and sensitively to local residents.

These trees have been funded by Defra’s Coronation Living Heritage Fund, which aims to connect communities with nature and improve the local environment to mark the coronation of King Charles III.
