Dog fouling is a serious health risk and must be cleaned up to prevent the spread of infection and distress to residents.

You must clean up after your dog in all publicly owned open spaces and highways except woodlands, marsh and agricultural land. Please read the Public Spaces Protection Order (No 1)  for details. Dog owners who fail to comply can be prosecuted (maximum fine £2500) or issued with a fixed penalty notice of £100.

Dog waste can be disposed of in dog bins, street litter bins and at home in your black household waste bin.

We’re Watching you Campaign

The We’re Watching you Campaign created by Keep Britain Tidy has been introduced at key locations across the district to reduce dog fouling.

The campaign is currently used by 80+ authorities across England and on average; a remarkable 46%-91% reduction in dog fouling has been identified in these areas since the launch in 2014.

Research has found that dog fouling tends to be worse in the winter months due to the shorter days and dog owners acting irresponsibly under the cover of darkness when they feel they aren’t being watched.

The campaign posters employing highly effective ‘watching eyes’ which glow in the dark will be placed in problem areas. The theory is that dog owners will behave better when they think they are being watched.
