Natural Environment and ControlsThe High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Over 80% of the rural area of Rother District falls within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - this area of landscape is of national importance and was designated as such in 1983. The East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Structure Plan 1991-2011, the Rother District Local Plan, the South East Plan and the High Weald Management Plan contain policies to ensure the area's preservation and enhancement. Article 3 Directions An Article 3 Direction removes permitted development rights for most forms of development if an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required. Article 4 Directions Whereas in many cases works can be done to individual properties without the need to make a planning application, in some instances an Article 4 direction has been served which requires owners to submit an application for works that would otherwise fall outside planning control. This enables the Council to exercise more control to protect the historic and architectural character of the town. |
