Use of Devonshire Square for Community Events

Devonshire square (both the paved area which is restricted to pedestrians and the carriageway running through it) is classified as a public highway and managed by East Sussex County Council.

Due to it being classified as a public highway there are some restrictions that event organisers need to be aware of and must comply with.

RDC cannot hire out Devonshire Square, as it is a public highway. Therefore, casual use of this area has to be authorised by East Sussex County Council Highways department However, with no traffic passing through the pedestrian area it offers the opportunity of use for community event purposes but organisers need to be aware of the restrictions and compliance matters.

Please read our guide on how to use Devonshire Square for further details.
