adiZone - Egerton Park

The adiZone installed in Egerton Park, Bexhill - the first in East Sussex - was funded by Rother District Council and adidas.

The 'adiZone', built in the shape of the London 2012 logo, was designed by sports giant adidas. This unique facility provides opportunities for people of all ages to have fun, get active and lead healthier lifestyles.

The scheme, one of only a handful in the region and the first in East Sussex, provides an outdoor gym, basketball area, football goal, tennis wall, a climbing wall and freestyle-area for street dance, martial arts and much more. The 18 station gym is aimed at older exercisers and is well used and popular with all ages.

Rother District Council was successful in securing a £75,000 grant made available by adidas for its construction.

The adiZones, which have already been piloted in the London Olympic Boroughs, encourage people into sport before the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The adiZone in Egerton Park was officially opened on Saturday 24 July 2010 by Councillor Jonathan Johnson and a representative from Adidas.

Bexhill Giants Basketball Club, Southlands Amateur Boxing Club and Dande's Capoeira all helped to showcase the diversity of this fantastic facility. Active Street Games ran competitions throughout the day for youngsters who won prizes of footballs and basketballs, donated by adidas.

Rother's adiZone has proved extremely popular with all ages and abilities, some using it purely for fun, recreational activity and others for more intense fitness regimes.

Rother District Council Sports Development and Active Rother made 'street games' available once a week throughout the school summer holidays in 2010, based around the adiZone, led by qualified coaches. It is hoped that programmes such as this will be able to continue for years to come.

Rother District Council has received positive comments from our residents, including some individuals mentioning they would benefit from coaching on how best to use this fitness area.

Happy to oblige, the Council's Leisure Team has linked with personal trainer Emma Rogers to show adults (18+) how to use the fitness equipment. This presents a great opportunity for people to develop their own training plan using the adiZone.

These adiZone training sessions will run every Monday from May 9 to June 27, with an additional two weekend sessions on Saturday May 28 and Saturday July 2. These all start at 10.30am until 11.30am. Sessions are free and no booking is required. Just turn up in suitable clothing and footwear and plenty of water.

For more details please contact Emma on 07795 036684 or call Adrian Gaylon, Sports Development Officer at Rother District Council 01424 787000.

In addition, The Great Outdoor Gym Company, manufacturer and installer of the adiZones, has developed weekly training programmes tailored to the needs of a variety of adiZone exercisers. You can download these plans here:
