Audit and Standards Committee
We are looking for two ‘Independent Persons’ for Rother District Council to join the Audit and Standards Committee – one in respect of Audit matters and one in respect of Standards matters.
Audit Independent Person
As a suitably qualified and experienced Audit Independent Person you will bring specialist knowledge and insight to the workings and deliberations of the Committee which will ensure:
• An effective independent assurance of the adequacy of the risk management framework.
• Independent review of the Council’s financial and non-financial performance.
• Independent challenge to and assurance over the Council’s internal control framework and wider governance processes.
• Oversight of the financial reporting process.
This role will be on the initial basis of a two-year appointment. An annual allowance of £900 per annum will be payable to cover all expenses, including travel to meetings.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in matters of an audit nature, experience of risk management, corporate governance, performance management and financial governance.
Applicants must live or work in the Rother District Council area, cannot be a serving local government officer or Councillor and have no personal, legal or contractual relationship with Rother District Council (including employees or Members or former staff), or any other relationship / activity which might represent a conflict of interest.
Standards Independent Person
The second Independent Person will assist the District Council and the parish and Town Councils within the District of Rother for a four-year term of office. District and Parish and Town Councillors work to an agreed Code of Conduct and you will be required to give your opinion on any valid complaints that are received. You will also be required to give advice following any investigation.
Applicants cannot be related to, or be a close friend of, current or former Councillors or officers of Rother District Council or the Parish / Town Councils within the district; nor can they be Member or an employee of the Council or the Parish / Town Councils within the Rother area, or has been so within the last 5 years.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high standards in public life and should show an interest in local government.
An annual allowance of £361 will be payable to the Independent Person.
