Criteria for the Community Trigger

Under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 a new procedure has been introduced called the ‘Community Trigger’.

To use the ‘Community Trigger’ you must have reported three separate incidents of anti-social behaviour or hate crime within the past six months to the police, the Council or your housing provider and believe that no action has been taken.

Each of the incidents need to have been reported within one month of them taking place and you must apply for Community Trigger within six months of the latest incident. The victim can be an individual, community group or a business.

The Community Trigger is not a complaints process. If you are unhappy with a service you have received, please consider making a complaint by contacting the organisation to whom you made the initial contact.

The Community Trigger is also known as ASB Case Review.

I don’t meet the criteria for a Community Trigger what do I do now?

 If this is the first time you are reporting this issue or concern, you can report it by:

• Contacting Sussex Police – call 999 in an emergency or report online ASB, Police Community Trigger, Hate Crime
• Contacting your housing provider or Landlord
• Reporting directly to your housing office or housing association, if you are a tenant of a social landlord.
