The Government recognises that some businesses that have been required to close may not have rateable commercial premises and therefore won’t be covered by the Restart Grants . 

Therefore the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) continues to be available to Local Authorities to use at its discretion to support local businesses affected by the national restrictions. The awarding of this grant is at the total discretion of the Council but in accordance with guidance issued by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy   

Rother District Council has decided on the following business types and award levels for a one off Discretionary Restart Grant payable with effect from 1 April 2021.

Market TradersThis grant relates to market traders that were instructed to close as they sell non-essential items to visiting members of the public from a stall, pitch or similar that is recognised by the Council as a market.£500
Holiday accommodation including self-contained holiday lets, Bed & Breakfast and small campsitesThis grant relates to property that is domestic or land that forms part of a domestic property and therefore subject to council tax. This does not include businesses where the letting is by way of home sharing (e.g. where a bedroom is let within a domestic property).£8,000
Supply ChainThis grant relates to businesses wholly or mainly involved in providing goods to businesses required to be closed during the 3rd national lockdown.** Up to £6,000
Events IndustryThis grant relates to businesses wholly or mainly acting as the organiser for commercial events£8,000
Home Based ‘in person’ businessesThis grant relates to registered home based businesses that when allowed to trade cannot maintain strict social distancing. E.g. hair and beauty industry businesses.£500

for businesses with a rateable value of more than £15k and less than £51k £4,000

for businesses with a rateable value of more than £51k £6,000

Businesses that are not eligible

Your business will not be eligible for the scheme if it:

  • was not engaged in business activity on 1 April 2021
  • is not operating within one of the stated business Categories above
  • has entered into administration or insolvency
  • does not meet the general qualification criteria of the scheme
  • already received a National or Discretionary Restart Grant.
  • has exceeded State Subsidy Limits

Before you apply, you must have the following information available to complete your application:

  • An electronic version of your latest bank statement.
  • Evidence business activity as at 1 April 2021
  • Proof of identification. In the case of a sole trader / partnership please provide your personal identification. In the case of a Ltd company please provide evidence of your company
