1. Ashburnham & Penhurst Parish Council

The celebrations held across the parish were a great success and supported by the whole village. These included a boundary walk, a local dramatic society performance covering all the years of the Queen’s reign, a barn darn, church service followed by a community bring and share picnic and a communal game of stoolball.

2. Battle Chamber of Commerce

Across the Jubilee weekend, a stall was run by students from Claverham Community College centred around Medieval Heraldry, supporting young people to create their own shields linking to the Queens Jubilee. The grant contributed towards resources for this stall.

3. Battle Medival Mysteries CIC

The grant from Rother was used to build a Platinum Giant Queen who took centre stage in a Parade in Battle where she danced, waved and entertained the crowds. The Platinum celebrations were not just about the weekend, but about legacy. The Giant Queen has been invited to take part in Hastings Old Town Carnival and Staplecross bonfire procession.

4. Battle Town Council

Battle Town Council used the grant towards a community picnic in Market square with entertainment by local groups on the afternoon of 2 June. The grant also assisted in the purchase and installation of a beacon, which was lit for the first time in line with other beacons being lit across the Commonwealth.

5. Beckley Parish Council

Beckley residents enjoyed a four-day Platinum Jubilee weekend, starting on the Thursday with a special church service dedicated to the Queen and was attended by the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex. A tree was planted as part of the Queen’s green canopy along with a time capsule full of items relating to the village or royalty. Other celebrations included a movie afternoon, evening entertainment, a horticultural show and village picnic. Cake was a key theme! Throughout the weekend the Children of Beckley School had created an art trail around the village for families to enjoy.

6. Brede Parish Council

As part of the Jubilee Celebrations in Brede, the Parish Council organised a Picnic in the Park on Sunday 5 June with entertainment. Despite the dull weather, families came out to enjoy the band and their picnics, before the rain set in.

7. Burwash Parish Council

The Platinum celebrations began before the bank holiday, with each child at the parish primary school being provided with flags, commemorative wildflower seeds and commemorative enamel badges. A shuttlebus was provided to ensure that the parishioners could attend events in other parts of the parish. Across the weekend, beacons were lit as part of the national beacon lighting, 1950 themed event, themed scarecrow competition and a family picnic fun day with many free activities.

8. Camber Community Group

The Platinum celebrations began before the bank holiday, with each child at the parish primary school being provided with flags, commemorative wildflower seeds and commemorative enamel badges. 9. Ewhurst and Staplecross Village Hall

A happy gathering of 90 plus community members attended the Jubilee Afternoon Tea. With a delicious tea of sandwiches and cakes all provided and served by the Women’s Institute and volunteers, with entertainment. The hall was decorated with balloons and streamers in traditional colours for such an event and floral table decorations were created by members of the Garden Society.

10. Fairfest

Fairfest had a successful Jubilee Jamboree on Saturday evening attended by many people with music from local entertainers. The Village Festival and fun dog show had a variety of entertainments in the arena and stalls selling a wide offering of goods.

11. Friends of Little Common

The bunting of red, white and blue and the floral displays around the village provided a backdrop to the Platinum Celebrations. A giant platinum crown was erected on the roundabout, a main gateway to Bexhill, with a large, lit up no70 and lighting in the trees. The displays and lighting generated huge numbers of positive comments and pride in the village.

12. Icklesham Trust Committee

The Icklesham Big Community Picnic to celebrate the jubilee was very well attended and very well received. Around 200 residents enjoyed music, puppet theatre and picnic food on the day. Three local bands played throughout the day to the many picnickers who were invited to bring along salads, foods and delicious homemade cakes to share to compliment the BBQ stand provided.

13. Light Up Bexhill CIC

The beacon on Galley Hill was lit at 9:45pm on Thursday 2 June, along with other beacons across the Commonwealth. The ceremony was attended by Derek Stevens, Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex, Kathy Harmer, Chair of Rother District Council and Councillor Paul Plim, Mayor of Bexhill.

14. Normans Bay Residents Association

The Platinum Jubilee Tea party in Normans Bay was attended by 97 people who enjoyed an abundance of homemade sandwiches, savouries and cakes. There were lots of festivities on the day including fancy dress, pebble painting, a raffle, Jubilee bake off and a Right Royal Quiz. Volunteers erected marquess, lots of bunting, decorated tables with flags, real napkins and china plates. 

15. Northiam Conservation Society

In 2020 Northaim Parish Council gave permission to the Conservation Society to use one of the fields to plant and maintain a local orchard within the Village.  As part of the village’s Jubilee weekend celebrations, the Conservation Society hosted an opening ceremony and tea party to announce the orchard, which includes a Jubilee Nuttery, formally open to the whole village. Three picnic benches have been installed across the site alongside an information board, giving the public information on the site and the trees.  The opening ceremony was a great success, with 70-80 residents in attendance, despite the overcast conditions.

16. Peasmarsh Parish Council

Peasmarsh Parish Council held a celebration on Friday 3 June 2022. The children who attended were presented with a commemorative coin by Graham Peters, Deputy Lord Lieutenant. The Sussex Brass Band played throughout the afternoon. Morris Dancers entertained and even taught residents how to dance. The entertainment continued into the evening with a local band playing. So many villagers, young and old came together as a community to enjoy the celebration.

17. Pett Parish Council

Pett Parish Council used the Jubilee grant towards a board illustrating a circular walk around the Parish to be known as the Jubilee Way. This was unveiled by Andrew Blackman, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex who led those present in a toast to Her Majesty the Queen.

18. Robertsbridge Arts Partnership

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Robertsbridge Arts Partnership created a Bygone Memory Photo trail around the village with boards displaying the history of many buildings on the High Street and Station Road detailing a comparison of village life in 1952 and 2022. Much time was spent in researching and developing oral histories given many residents an insight into village life in the past.

19. Salehurst & Robertsbridge Parish Council

Robertsbridge held its main whole-community event on the Saturday afternoon, held on Station Road. Activities included Punch and Judy, a petting Zoo, classic car show, refreshments and entertainment. Lots of houses were decorated with flags. A bunting workshop was held for children to create the bunting for Station Road and the Village Hall. The event was very well attended and enjoyed by residents of all ages, who were encouraged to dress in red, white and blue.

20. Sedlescombe Parish Council

Tables and chairs were placed on The Green for the residents, some of which bought their own picnics. Refreshments were also supplied and served along with the locally donated sandwiches and cakes.  A fancy-dress competition was held with prizes of Platinum Jubilee Royal Mint coins. Live music was played, and maypole dancing was enjoyed by many. Face painting was a great hit along with games for the children. The afternoon was deemed a great success, with help given by most of the societies in Sedlescombe.

21. St Mary the Virgin Battle (Flower Guild)

Inside the church, 22 flower arrangements were a tribute to different aspects of the Queen’s reign. On 2nd June after the mid-week service, a little ribbon cutting ceremony was held and the ‘Celebration in Flowers for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee’ was opened! Classical music wafted quietly through the church and the smell of flowers filled the air. Visitors from near and far filled the church over the next few days and many said how moved they had been as they walked around the church, appreciating the thought and time that had gone into each arrangement.

22. Stonegate Village Hall

A memorable weekend of Jubilee celebrations began on a well-attended lighting of the beacon and singing of the song for the Commonwealth ‘A life Lived with Grace’. A procession on Saturday to the Village Hall started the celebrations for the Jubilee party which had fun, games and entertainment. The party continued into the evening with a live streaming of the concert in the Mall.

23. The Jubilee Committee in Hurst Green

The Jubilee Fete had a real community feel, with an estimated 350 people attending and many stalls and activities. The community choirs and primary school choir performed at the beginning of the fete. The food offering was popular with many of the caterers having queues, selling out towards and extending their planned opening times. The traditional cream tea and cakes provided by the school was appreciated. Many residents have provided their gratitude to the organisers for organising the Jubilee Fete.

24. Ticehurst Parish Council

A busy Saturday saw an afternoon of activities and competitions for all. Many residents participated in a procession through the village. The entertainment continued into the evening including a band playing which many enjoyed celebrating the occasion.

25. Udimore Parish Council

The village came together on Friday 3rd June to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at Parsonage Farm. The day started with two walks, one shorter than the other, skirting the boundary of the village, starting and ending at Parsonage. This was followed by a village picnic with music, a bouncy castle and children’s entertainment.

26. Whatlington Parish Council

The Whatlington Lunch started at 2pm on Sunday 5 June with a toast to the Queen and ended with the National Anthem. Many villagers arrived in clothing of red, white and blue. Following lunch there were children’s and adults’ races and a planting of an oak tree in the field behind the village car park along with a time capsule containing messages from the villagers. It was an occasion enjoyed by all.

27. Winchelsea Beach Community Association

The Community Hall was decorated inside and out to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. 64 guests were catered for afternoon tea on the Friday, attended by Sally-Ann Hart MP and Cllr Lizzie Hacking. Volunteers from the village helped with the baking and sandwich making. On Saturday, a local band entertained over 60 guests with a fish and chip supper.

28. Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) Lunch Club

As part of the ‘Big Lunch’ initiative taking place across the nation, the team of volunteers at WRVS put together a delicious lunch. Entertainment was provided which included a video of earlier royal jubilees. Andi Rivett, Rye Mayor, read out a letter from her Majesty wishing all an enjoyable lunch and thanking everyone for 70 glorious years.
