Following a recent Outline planning application for a mixed-use development on the site of the former Bexhill High School, Rother District Council is working up detailed design proposals for the residential element of this scheme to provide much needed family homes. This site has been allocated for a mixed-use development, including new homes, within the Council’s Local Plan and could be delivered by Alliance Homes (Rother) to provide much needed housing for the area.
The residential scheme will be located on the northern part of this site, with the commercial element potentially including a new leisure centre subject to a separate design process to follow in due course.
The residential scheme aims to provide 52 modern family homes, including at least 18 Affordable Homes, in accordance with the site’s allocation in Rother District Council’s Local Plan. These proposals seek to respond to the high levels of housing need within Bexhill, providing high quality housing .The affordable housing units will be made available to local people on the Council’s Housing Register, in accordance with the allocations policy.
The Council’s sustainable approach to development includes taking a fabric first approach, to ensure the buildings are energy efficient to run with minimal running costs. A commitment to renewable energy also forms part of the brief to contribute toward the heating and hot water provision.
Quality aspirations include an easy to navigate and friendly design, incorporating private outdoor amenity space, that is robust and provides safe homes to live in for many years to come.
Alliance Homes is the Council’s Housing Company, which was formed in 2020. Its purpose is to accelerate the delivery of housing within the District, focusing on meeting identified housing needs within our communities.
