Bexhill Town Centre Project Steering Group

The group will engage fully with the local community through consultation and communications and will collaborate with key groups and agencies in the area.

Bexhill has already benefited from millions of pounds of investment in the last 4 years.  This includes the refurbished De La Warr Pavilion, extended Bexhill Museum, state-of-the-art Bexhill High School, the innovative Elva Business Centre and new seafront.  The regeneration of the town centre is the natural next step in this storyline.

By working with the community, businesses and partners, we believe there is an opportunity to carry on this good work and create a positive, attractive identity for the town centre that will see enhanced commercial and social vitality, reduce levels of deprivation and attract innovative and entrepreneurial people.

Bexhill on Sea is typical of many seaside towns in England in the changes it has undergone since the 1970s - from popular holiday destination to a decline due to many external factors such as cheap overseas travel and changes in consumer expectations, attitudes and habits.

However, the future looks brighter now than it has done for many years.

Businesses are starting to recognise that coastal towns have much to offer as a location due to their significant quality of life benefits, supported by advances in technology

A consuming, healthy, active and, in many cases, working older population also offers the opportunity to revitalise seaside towns.  But their decisions on where to move to will be based on social opportunity, employment and a stimulating environment.

Bexhill is already starting to meet this challenge, but a regenerated town centre will be a crucial factor in this process.
