Legacy Swimming lessons

Rother District Council, working in partnership with Freedom leisure, secured funding from the Amateur Swimming Association to offer subsidised swimming lessons for older people.

This exciting initiative was awarded the London 2012 Inspire mark.

London 2012 Inspire Mark : London 2012 Inspire Mark for swimming lessons scheme

Rother District Council was pleased to be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity to get people involved in sport, inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games and to encourage local communities to be part of the Games coming to our nation.

The programme created blocks of swimming lessons for older people who could not swim or lack confidence in the water. The aim was to teach them the skills so they could make the most of the Government's Free Swim scheme that ran from 1 March 2009 to 31 July 2010.

The sessions have taken place in Rye Sports Centre with:

  • 20 people attending
  • 12 sessions
