You can complete an online application for Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction by launching the benefits calculator.
Please read the information below as it contains important information about the online process. You have to complete the benefits calculator in order to access the online claim form. The online claim process is for customers who are required to complete a new application form only. If you need to report a change of circumstances and/or address please use the specific forms for this purpose, or you can provide the details in writing.
At the start of the online claim you need to ensure you have all information regarding your circumstances. This includes;
- All household members
- All income and capital details
- Bank account details
- Rent and tenancy information
- Details about the property you occupy
- Council Tax banding
- Bank account details of where benefit is to be paid
Please note: Ensure all data input is accurate and not estimated. The Council can prosecute if you provide incorrect information.
When claiming online it's always advisable to set up a claim password and make a note of the online reference number the system allocates you. If you fail to do this, you will not be able to re-access your online claim.
We also strongly recommend you provide us with contact telephone numbers so we can contact you regarding your application. This can also speed up the length of time it takes to process your claim.
At the end of the application it will tell you what evidence you will need to provide once the claim is submitted. You will need to sign a declaration which you can do in two ways. Either print off the declaration yourself at the end of the claim form or request for the declaration to be sent to you. You can choose which option suits your needs at the end of the claim form.
Do not delay in submitting your application as you may lose out on Housing Benefit and or Council Tax Reduction
You can submit an online application even if you do not have all the evidence to support your claim. You have one month from the date your claim is submitted to provide us with the signed declaration and supporting evidence. These must be original documents and not copies. We will not be able to award you any Housing Benefit and or Council Tax Reduction until all supporting evidence is received.
You can supply your declaration and supporting evidence either by post or in person. Please note, original documents will be copied and returned to you.
The sooner you provide your declaration and supporting evidence, the sooner your claim can be processed.
